Today is dedicated to you. I hope you had a heartful, warm and pleasant day. Mine was. It will stay in my heart for sure.

I wish we would more often open our hearts truly. Not because of the Valentine's Day, but maybe because of this: 'To the world you are one person, but to one person you could be the world.' (- Albert Einstein)

Giving thanks, giving gifts 2014

Yes, it is back this year as well - the time in December that is especially precious to me. Time, dedicated to saying thanks and giving gifts. Time, when I look back into the year 2014, from which I've got new knowledge, new discoveries, new questions and answers. I am thankful for these gifts, which can not compete with all the St.Nikolas's-Santa Clause's-Father Cold's-New Year's gorgeous gifts, which are (compared with them) just a dot on a letter i. These gifts are gifts for ever, they will stay with me forever, from the day I've received them.

As always I invite you to join in and add your thoughts, comments, opinions and ideas, so that we all gain from this time as much as we can. And you’re welcome to invite others too!

This year my ‘Giving thanks, giving gifts’ is going to be a bit different from the previous years (2013, 2011, 2010, 2009), but I hope, that it is still going to be interesting and inspiring to you… My posts are going to be dedicated to the wise words that some known and less known people have said, and which helped me when I was down. Yes, there are days, when we doubt, worry, feel sad, feel pain or feel desperate… - and then, a word can help, or a hug, smile, music… What usually helps me are the words and actions that cross my path at the right time, at the right place. I’ll share some of these words with you this year.

#1: Everything is connected:

we all want similar things, we all need somebody or something that we can survive, everything is connected to everything else. Isn’t it great that someone grows food for me while I am busy with other things? Isn’t it great that I can talk to someone when I need advice? Garbage men, workers who produced my car, a dentist, neighbor’s cat, flowers and bees from which we get sweet honey... The list is endless. Everyone that we meet, has to be there because of us, everything that we go through, has to be as it is, so that the string of connection doesn’t break. It is not always to accept this, but I’m learning to see. I wish the same to you, because I believe it is easier to live our lives when we understand this, isn’t it so? What do you think?

And yes, we all want to be happy, every year, every December, no matter where we live. Isn’t it true? When you will be thinking about this, let me inspire you with this gorgeous simple video, which will remind you that we are all one…

PS: you can freely share my gifts (photos in my December posts) further. If you can’t save them from this website, you can save/share them via my FB page: CreatissimoLab FB page. Let the happy December & ‘the time for giving thanks, giving gifts’ begin! I’m looking forward to celebrate this time with you!

Special: The wisdom of sharing and giving

Today, I am delighted to share a special story with you. It is written by my dear friend Christina whom I admire and am very thankful to be friends with her. I learn so much from her life, from her giving and sharing, from her kindness. She is just an 'ordinary' person, one of us, but her small steps made big changes in some people's lives, so I support her efforts 100%.

Here is her story:

Imagine a world in which we all shared our gifts and bounty with each other rather than focusing on self preservation…  It all started with my first visit to Nepal with my husband Joe in 2003. We had a wonderful 2-weeks holiday in Nepal but after I came back to Singapore, this country and the people were constantly on my mind. I told Joe  if I ever return to Nepal for another visit, I would want to give something back to the society there.

In 2006, I went back to Nepal for second time for my first volunteer work in an orphanage home with 57 children. Firstly, I have no experience in teaching and guiding children. The moment I saw these children, my heart was crying inside when I saw their living condition, dietary as well as behaviour. The list can go on and on. I saw very worn-out mattresses with bed bugs and shared by 3 to 4 kids on a single mattress depending on their age and body size. Eating eggs is a luxury for these children. The orphanage home did not have enough funds and the kids were fed with rice and potatoes (all carbohydrate) to fill up their stomach. As soon as I returned to Singapore, I shared my experience with my friends and within the next 2 weeks I was able to raise some money and wired them to the volunteer organization to buy new mattresses and food for the children in the orphanage home.

However, I was determined to continue to help them in any way I can from miles and ocean apart. I decided to do fund-raising for them.  My friends donated monies to the fund for the Nepalese children at anytime of the year. It doesn’t have to be on Christmas, Chinese New Year, etc.  Once the fund has reached to approximately 400 Euro, I would wire the money to the volunteer organization that I trust to buy food for the children on monthly basis.  It may not be a lot of money but at least we are able to subsidize and provide their daily needs so that the children won’t have to starve.

I had been to Nepal a couple of times since then. During my recent trip to Nepal (from 3 November to 28 November 2013), Joe and I volunteered at 4 different orphanage homes (including the one I have been helping since 2007). Joe and I truly enjoyed every moment we spent with the children. Besides using the monies we raised to buy food, school bags, mattresses, school socks and furniture for the children in the orphanage home, what the children truly need apart from these basic needs is LOVE.  The smile on the children face is worth more than a thousand words!

Joe enjoyed cooking for them while I loved spending my time teaching them some craft work, dancing, chatting and doing kids yoga. These children do not have Barbie dolls, Lego toys or simply any toys to play with but we would use stones to play “five stones” and some fingers games.  It made me realized how fortunate we are where we live and come from but these children and poor Nepalese are suffering from poverty yet they are happy in some way.

Imagine if you choose not to buy a tall café latte or chai latte from Starbucks once a week, this amount of money can be used to purchase a tray of 30 eggs or 2.5kg worth of carrots in Nepal to provide a side dish for 17 children.

There is a quote by Dalai Lama which I’d like to share with you. “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive”.  I hope everyone will continue to share and give in any way they can to needy people. For those who are keen to donate for this cause to help the underprivileged Nepalese children, please contact Jožica for my email address.

May all the sweet magic of Christmas conspire to gladden your heart and fill every desire!

Question #13:

What sharing and giving (small steps or big) did you do or would you like to do if you had all the possibilities?

PS: The question is part of the game 'Giving thanks, giving gifts'. Join us! (You can find the rules in one of  the previous posts here and all the questions in all December posts). Rejoyce with us and have fun!

Giving thanks, giving gifts - again!

Yesterday, in this post, I told you: it is back! So let's play again! Let's dedicate this month to the time for saying thanks to (extra)-ordinary people, things, moments... and let's give gifts of love, dedication, harmony!

Do you want to see how we played 'Giving thanks, giving gifts' previous times? Then check the December posts from previous years on this blog!

This year, we are going to play again. We will have almost the same rules as the years before, but as always, this year some things are going to be different as well. Play with us and you will see! Here are the rules:

  • From now on, every December post will have a question or a task for you. You can comment, share your wise thoughts, re-act... in the comments below. You can write the answers to any December post anytime in December until the game is over (you will be informed when), because I know how busy the month is. (I hope my posts will remind you that we should slow down a bit, breath, look around us and inside us... at least for a minute or two - to feel the warmth in our hearts and inner peace).
  • Invite the others to play with us. We will then hear about different perspectives and experiences, what will help us to grow.
  • Onto your blog, fb, etc. paste the picture from below (button) and link it to this post or blog, so that the button might invite more people to play.
  • Be creative. When commenting, use other media of expression (music, poetry, video, images, drawings etc) and inspire us!

Maybe (as in the previous years), although this game is not about competing or gaining material rewards, we might find some gifts for the participants, so: try hard and make our December days happier! With you, we will broaden our views, will learn new things, will learn more about you, and maybe we will even get inspired by you!...

So, let the joyful time begin!

Question #1:

To whom would you say 'thank you' the most this year? How would you 'say' thank you to this person, so that you surprise him/her with something that he/she would have never expect it?

Could we start again please

December is here and the game 'Giving thanks, giving gifts' is back! Yoohoo!  Are you ready to play with us??

This blog was a sleeping beauty for a while, but it won't miss such an important event as the 'Giving thanks, giving gifts', so jump on your feet and get ready for it!

Every post in December will have a task in which you can participate. It is not a competition, it is not about material rewards... - but your heart will grow and your soul will be inspired - that's the biggest gift you can receive.

I will write the rules of the game in the next post; today, I just want to make sure you're ready for it.

Are you in??

December is a festive month, but also a month of self-reflections and nourishing of our souls... How many times we beg and say 'Could we start again, please', but it is too late...

I've been living to see you. dying to see you, but it shouldn't be like this.
This was unexpected, what do I do now?
Could we start again please?
I've been very hopeful, so far. Now for the first time, I think we're going wrong.
Hurry up and tell me, This is just a dream.
Oh could we start again please?

I think you've made your point now. You've even gone a bit too far to get the message home.
Before it gets too frightening, we ought to call a vote,
So could we start again please?

So, let's start again! Let's listen to inspiring stories, creative resolutions and heartful words. Let's say thanks in our unique way. Let's just be us - true, open and sincere.

And let's play!

Are you in??
